If there is one English word known by all in Tacloban City, Philippines, it's "survivor." The people here have woken up to a new world and a new sense of self. Super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) brought gale force winds and surging waves which destroyed this small coastal village and left behind mere frames of the life and civilization they once knew. Today, new lives are being rebuilt on top of the wreckage of the past. The trash and debris is not entirely removed, only moved to make way for a new life while hanging on to the memory of the old. There is a struggle to make sense of it all and move on.
